Empowering Women Through Skill Training | TRRAIN

About TRRAINHer Ascent

“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.”
~ Kofi Annan (Former UN Secretary-General)

Women in India, despite making up 48.5% of the population, have a dismal workforce participation rate of just 25.5% (Census 2011). Many factors contribute to this gap – gender discrimination, lack of education, household responsibilities and concerns about workplace safety, to name a few. In response, TRRAINHer Ascent was started in 2018 to provide underprivileged young women with training in retail and essential life skills. By improving their chances of employment, this program empowers women to grow personally and contribute meaningfully to their family’s progress.

In India’s fast-growing retail sector—where customer connection is key—women bring empathy, resilience, and a deep understanding of consumer needs, making them indispensable to frontline and leadership roles alike. Therefore, women’s participation in retail isn’t just about inclusion—it’s about unlocking growth. Empowering women means tapping into a massive, underutilized workforce that can drive both customer satisfaction and business success.
