BE THE CATALYST FOR CHANGE: Empower Persons with Disabilities to craft sustainable Livelihoods and nurture aspirations

TRRAIN was the brainchild of Mr. B.S. Nagesh, and was born after in-depth research was conducted amongst employees and employers, both, in modern and traditional retail. This study, conducted by an independent body, indicated that a vast majority of people working in the retail sector hardly ever felt a sense of pride or dignity from their work. Moreover, social inclusion was hard to come by and upskilling or learning new skills was almost entirely out of the question. Unsettled by the hard hitting research findings, Mr. Nagesh decided it was time for him to give something back to the industry that had given him so much. Thus began the story of TRRAIN.

PWD stands for Persons with Disabilities DEI stands for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives

D = Diversity, The visible and non-visible ways in which people may differ, and a wide array of other characteristics and backgrounds that make a person unique.

E = Equity The act of ensuring that processes and programs promote justness, and impartiality and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual.

I = Inclusion An environment where differences are welcomed, valued and embraced, and all people— including customers—have a positive experience.

TRRAIN has been helping PWDs since 2011. TRRAIN's program PANKH, which trains and supports Persons with disabilities (PWDs) grew out of a need to match the challenge of inadequate manpower, high attrition rates in the retail sector, and the acute need to develop a sense of diversity and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the workplace.

A number that started at 21 is now well beyond 2500 and the dream to create livelihoods and support employees for 10,000 people with disabilities every year.

TRRAINHer Ascent is an initiative which began in 2018 to empower women in retail. TRRAINHer Ascent - Livelihood program aims at training and creating livelihood opportunities for women in retail. It focuses on providing employment and sustainable livelihood to those who want to join the retail industry.

TRRAIN Her Ascent is a mindfully designed skills training program that primarily focuses on retail skills and life skills. Through this livelihood program, TRRAIN aims to promote a gender diverse workforce in retail.

TRRAIN Pankh and TRRAIN Her Ascent are active in the Northern, Western, and Southern regions of India.

There are several reasons for this:

• The retail sector is one of the largest and fastest evolving sectors.
• The retail sector is one of the largest and fastest evolving sectors.
• Retailers' DEI practices can make a huge impact on shoppers' behaviours. A recent report reveals that retailers committed to DEI and PWD or Persons with disabilities inclusion are more likely to attract customers, and have a great influence on their purchasing.
• Retail has low entry barriers, needing a minimum qualification of 10th grade education, which makes it easier for PWDs to enter the sector.
• 80% of retail jobs are customer facing, thus retailers who have DEI and PWD inclusions, lead to overall sensitization both within the retail sector and from the shoppers perspective.
• Retail offers DEI and PWDs' Visibility and Opportunity
• Studies have shown that customers prefer brands that demonstrate socio-environmental sensitivity and responsibility.

TRRAIN offers sensitisation workshops to companies aiming to implement DEI, thus enabling their employees to be sensitised, prepared and trained, further ensuring facility checks and more.

Yes both individuals and companies can get tax deductions for contributions made to TRRAIN

The Income Tax Act has a provision known as Section 80G that enables taxpayers to deduct a variety of contributions made as charitable donations. Donations to the designated non-profits/ NGOs and charity organizations are eligible for the Act's deduction. When filing the income tax return, the amount donated may be deducted as per section 80G.

The donation would not be eligible for a deduction if it was made while the 80G registration of charity/ trust/ non-profit was not active.

Tax exemption donation reduces the tax liability of the donor by decreasing his/her taxable income under the 80G section of IT. Only registered charities/ trusts/ non-profits are eligible to issue 80G tax receipts and it decreases taxable salary by 50% of the donated amount. Here's an example - if your yearly taxable income is ₹7,00,000 and you make a donation of ₹10,000 then your net taxable income will become ₹6,95,000. Your income tax will now be calculated on this reduced taxable income based on the current tax rates.

All donations made to TRRAIN Trust are eligible for a 50% deduction from taxable income under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. TRRAIN Trust, a highly trusted NGO is registered under the act with charity and has the approval of the IT dept under the 80G section. By donating to TRRAIN Trust you not only help empower persons with disabilities, and young women, but also get a tax deduction benefit. After making a donation, you will get a certificate under Section 80G with a receipt that can be used while filing income tax returns (ITR) for tax deductions. It reduces the tax liability by 50% of the donated amount

While there is no specified minimum amount to avail of tax exemption under IT section 80G for online donation, we request all supporters to donate a minimum of ₹ 500 as it helps us to take care of documentation expenses.

Yes, TRRAIN Trust issues tax receipts for all donations made. The tax receipts are emailed or sent by courier at the shared address while making the donation.
