Stories of Impact: TRRAIN Livelihood Programs

The UNDP report paints a stark picture of exclusion: only 36% of persons with disabilities are part of the labour force in India.

Let that sink in. This isn’t just a number from a government document. It represents a vast, untapped pool of human potential. It signifies millions of individuals with talent, ambition, and the desire to contribute, who find the door to opportunity locked shut by barriers of perception, prejudice, and a lack of access.

At TRRAIN, we don’t just see the barriers. We see the person waiting on the other side. And our mission, fuelled by the belief in human potential, is to provide the key to unlock that door.

Today, we want to share a few stories with you. Not stories of charity, but stories of transformation, resilience, and the incredible social impact through CSR that happens when we choose to invest in people.

Livelihood Programs: Stories of CSR Partnership Success

At TRRAIN, our livelihood programs are the fuel of transformation, designed for India’s most deserving yet overlooked talent: Persons with Disabilities and ambitious young women. Through targeted initiatives like Project Pankh and TRRAINHer Ascent, we provide more than just job training. We deliver crucial retail-specific knowledge, essential life skills, and the confidence needed to thrive. Our goal is to build sustainable careers, not just provide first jobs. We connect our certified graduates with leading employers, who pave the way for financial independence, dignity, and a future of limitless possibilities for them and their families.

The Story of Project Pankh

Imagine a world where your ability is constantly overshadowed by your disability. That is the reality for a vast majority of India’s 21 million Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The path to employment is filled with challenges that go beyond a simple job search.

This is where Project Pankh begins.

Meet Rahul Parmar. Before Pankh, his world felt small. “I thought I would never get a job,” he remembers, “and that too in a big city like Ahmedabad.” His story echoes the feelings of countless others, a sense of being left behind.

Project Pankh was designed to dismantle the three core barriers PwDs face: a lack of skills, a lack of opportunities, and a lack of inclusion. Through our intensive 45-day training in retail skills, English, and crucial life skills, we don’t just prepare our trainees for a job; we prepare them for a life of dignity.

Today, Rahul is not just employed; he is thriving. “I’m so thankful to my trainer and Pankh team for always supporting me,” he says. “With their help, I’m able to earn money and provide for my family.”

He is not an exception; he is the new standard. This is the scalable impact in CSR we strive for. When we see Mohd Haider’s mother tell us, “His newfound confidence, happiness, and success are a gift not only to him but also to us,” we know the impact ripples outwards, transforming families and communities. It’s a testament to sustainable community development in its truest form.

The Power of TRRAINHer Ascent

While some need a start, others need a chance to climb. In India, for every 10 men you see in the workforce, there are fewer than 3 women. For those women who do secure a job, an invisible ceiling often prevents them from rising into leadership roles.

This is the challenge TRRAINHer Ascent was built to overcome.

Firdos’s story is a powerful example. Full of ambition, she faced a common hurdle: her own family’s hesitation. “I am immensely thankful to the TRRAINHer Ascent program for persuading my family to grant me the opportunity to participate,” she shares.

That persuasion is part of our work. We know that empowering a woman often means engaging with her entire ecosystem. TRRAINHer Ascent is a sustainable livelihood program that provides women in frontline retail jobs with the specific business, leadership, and self-management skills they need to become managers.

After completing the program, Firdos secured a position at Skechers with a salary that reflects her capabilities. She is no longer just an employee; she is a future leader.

Similarly, Santhiya, a mother, found a path that didn’t force her to choose between her son and her career. “I’m grateful for the opportunity that provided work-life balance,” she says.

These are not just jobs. This is economic empowerment. It’s building a more diverse, inclusive, and effective workforce from the ground up. And when our hiring partners tell us they are “impressed with their go-getter attitude, interest in learning new things, and zeal to improve their skills,” it proves that this model of CSR partnership success is a win for everyone.
