What Is The TRRAIN NGO Pankh Program

 

Due to the lack of opportunities and social stigma, many Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) remain unemployed and underemployed. To address these issues, the TRRAIN Pankh programme was launched in 2011.

 

Pankh is a programme and a shift in perspective. A movement that transforms hesitation into confidence, dependence into independence, and most importantly, ‘disability’ into ‘ability’.

 

It provides retail training and job placements for PwDs. As a leading vocational training NGO for disabled individuals, Pankh focuses on building practical, industry-relevant skills. The programme aims to help them become self-reliant and contributing employees in the mainstream workforce.

 

Through the TRRAIN Pankh programme, we work towards tackling three main barriers that inhibit the integration of PwDs into the workforce. Those barriers are:

 

  1. Lack of job-ready skills through training of PwDs.
  2. Lack of employment opportunities for PwDs.
  3. Sensitisation regarding the importance of their inclusion in the retail and allied industries.

 

How The Pankh Programme Works

 

Creating job opportunities for people with disabilities takes a lot of effort and struggle. However, TRRAIN ensures that no individual feels unheard or overlooked. Let’s take a closer look at how Pankh works.

 

NGO Partnerships

 

TRRAIN partners with NGOs working for disability empowerment in India. Through these NGOs, we reach out to locals and communities to build a connection.

 

  • Builds a strong grassroots network to ensure last-mile reach, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Mobilization

 

The NGOs conduct mobilisation drives to identify eligible and interested trainees for the Pankh programme, with the help of TRRAIN. Counselling is conducted for the family members of the PwDs, and the candidates are enrolled for the training.

 

  • Focuses on identifying individuals who are both willing and ready to become financially independent.

 

  • Includes awareness sessions to break myths and stigma around disability and employment.

 

  • Family counselling ensures long-term support, which is often critical for sustained success.

 

Training

 

Pankh includes a 45-day training encompassing a complete spectrum of retail-specific, communication and life skills for PwDs. After 45 days, students complete mid-term and end-of-term assessments. They get Retailers Association Skill Council of India (RASCI) certification, endorsing their skills and job-readiness.

 

  • Combines practical retail training with essential soft skills like communication, confidence, and workplace behaviour.

 

  • Uses inclusive and adaptive teaching methods tailored to different types of disabilities.

 

  • Certification adds credibility, increasing employability and employer confidence.

Placement Support

 

Our dedicated placement team matches trainees with relevant industry opportunities. Our mentors and counsellors prepare them with interview skills and assist them in presenting themselves to their prospective employers.

 

  • Personalised job matching ensures candidates are placed in roles suited to their abilities and interests.

 

  • Pre-placement training includes mock interviews, CV building, and workplace readiness.

 

  • Continuous guidance helps candidates transition smoothly from training to employment.
